2waytraffic acquires Medical Challenges and Flower Power
2waytraffic International, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to two unique human interest formats in the run up to MIPCOM, Four Luck Banana’s Medical Challenges, currently on air regionally in Spain, and Flower Power, created by Simpel Media and broadcast this summer on RTL4 in the Netherlands.
Medical Challenges tells the amazing stories of patients and doctors as they try to unravel strange illnesses which baffled the most gifted doctors until their unlikely cause was discovered. The series provides a fresh look at the increasingly popular area of medical science by combining gripping human interest stories with ground-breaking medical imagery. To create the state of the art medical imagery central to the format, 2waytraffic has secured exclusive access to a database of over 1500 clips of computer-generated 3D graphics, usually only seen within pharmaceutical and medical research.
Spanish production company, Four Luck Banana is currently producing a 13 x 30 minutes series of Medical Challenges in Spain for FORTA Channels, Telemadrid, Euskal Telebista, TV Castilla-la Mancha, Canal 9 Valencia, Balearic TV and Canarian TV.
Flower Power featuresmembers of the public opening their hearts to share the real-life stories behind the simple act of buying a bunch of flowers. In every episode, the host visits a different flower stand and asks the people he meets who they are buying flowers for and why. Whether they are to take on a first date, or as a gift for someone in hospital, the extraordinary stories behind every bouquet make for intriguing and emotional viewing.
Dutch production company, Simpel Media, produced a 40 x 25 minutes series of Flower Power for RTL4, which was broadcast daily in primetime across 8 weeks in July and August 2008. The series attracted shares of up to 17.4% in RTL4's target group of 20-49 year olds, and the broadcaster has ordered a second series.
Ed Louwerse, Managing Director of 2waytraffic International, commented:
“Medical Challenges and Flower Power are fantastic additions to our slate of human interest formats. Medical Challenges uses cutting edge imageryto illustrate the real life versions of extraordinary stories usually only found in medical dramas, whilst Flower Power is an incredibly simple and cost effective format which punches well above its weight in terms of the spectrum of human emotion it delivers. ”
