2waytraffic International, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to Stay of Execution, the financial makeover series currently proving a hit for RTL4 in the Netherlands. The company will present the format and completed series to the international market at Mipcom.
At a time when people around the world are struggling to make ends meet as they face the credit crunch, Stay of Execution meets the individuals who are heading for certain financial ruin and offers them a lifeline.
Each 45’ episode features someone in such financial trouble that their only option is to sell their house and move somewhere more affordable. They need to do something fast, before they lose their home and their whole way of life. The host hears how they have got into the situation and then introduces a team of three experts - a builder, an estate agent and a budget coach. Together the experts attempt to reverse the individual’s financial crisis by making the most out of their house and selling it, while demonstrating how to cut unnecessary costs along the way.
Currently on air in primetime on RTL4 in the Netherlands, Stay of Execution is proving a hit with viewers, consistently performing above the channel average, attracting audiences of over 1.2 million and a 19.4% share.
Stay of Execution was created by MQM Media, and the rights to the format are owned by MQM Media and broadcaster, RTL.
Ed Louwerse, Managing Director of 2waytraffic International, said:
“Stay of Execution not only has the appeal of real human interest stories, it offers viewers a wealth of expert advice and practical tips on how they can improve their own financial situation.
