2waytraffic, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, has struck new deals for its question-less game show format, Ba Ba Boom, in Brazil, the Philippines and the Middle East. Collectively the three deals will see the format launch in 23 countries across three continents.
Globo, Brazil’s largest television network, will produce and broadcast an initial series of up to 26 episodes. In the Philippines, local producer, TAPE will produce 65 episodes to be broadcast on GMA7, the country’s largest television network. In the Middle East, Endemol Middle East will produce 20 episodes for Lebanon-based broadcaster, Future Television, which broadcasts into 21 countries, including Egypt, UAE, Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, with a reach of almost 35 million viewers.
Ed Louwerse, Managing Director of 2waytraffic International, said:
“In the current economic climate, Ba Ba Boom is launching at a perfect time for broadcasters. With no questions asked and requiring just the listening skills of the contestants, this is a powerful yet inexpensive family game show. From such a simple and addictive mechanism, broadcasters can adapt the format to their local market which makes it all the more appealing. As MipTV approaches, I’m delighted to be launching Ba Ba Boom with three such significant broadcasters into multiple territories.”
Ba Ba Boomfeatures a panel of 10 models stood behind a table, hands placed flat on its surface. Under 17 of their hands, there’s nothing, but under three, there’s a coin. The models bang their hands three times - twice making fists and the third time flat - on the table in unison. Both the contestants and the viewers at home are able to hear the clinking sound of the coins on the table surface, and to win the prize money, the contestants must simply eliminate all the hands that do not contain a coin. Reveal a hand that has a coin though and the contestant is eliminated.
