2waytraffic International to distribute Nippon Television’s Silent Library
2waytraffic International has acquired distribution rights in non-English speaking territories to NTV’s hit Japanese gameshow format, Silent Library, and will be taking the format to Mipcom this October.
The deal covers all territories excluding Japan, the UK, Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man, North America (USA, Canada and Mexico), Australia and New Zealand.
Silent Library was created by Japanese comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto in 2001 as part of NTV’s hugely popular variety show, Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende. It takes place in a library setting where a team of players perform pranks and punishments on each other whilst having to remain as silent as possible.
As well as rolling out Silent Library internationally, 2waytraffic will use its experience and expertise to leverage the format across multiple platforms.
Ed Louwerse, Managing Director of 2waytraffic International, commented:
“Silent Library has already won an international cult following through fans posting their favorite moments on file-sharing websites. Given the current trend in Japanese formats, and NTV’s track record in international success, I’m delighted it is a part of 2waytraffic’s offering.”
NTV is Japan’s first and largest commercial broadcaster, and the network has an extensive catalogue of popular originated content, including the hit format, Dragon’s Den.
