2waytraffic International will be presenting a brand new series of its enduringly popular comedy entertainment property, Commercial Breakdown at MIPTV next month, and announces recent deals for both the format and catalogue of completed series.
The new run of 7 x 30 minutes episodes, the eleventh series, titled Commercial Breakdown with Jimmy Carr, gathers together more unmissable adverts from all corners of the globe and is hosted by Jimmy Carr, one of the UK’s most distinctive and original comedians.
Originated for BBC One by Celador Productions, Commercial Breakdown has been trawling the highways and byways of television advertising for over 17 years to showcase the world’s funniest adverts alongside commentary from some of the biggest names in British comedy talent, including Jasper Carrott, Jo Brand, Ruby Wax and Jon Culshaw, and now most recently, Jimmy Carr. Territories where Commercial Breakdown has aired include France, Germany, North Africa, the Netherlands, Brazil, the Middle East and South Korea.
In a recent deal, Australia’s Nine Network has created a home grown version of the format, using the adverts and scripts from the UK series to create an original series of 12 x 30’ episodes, hosted by former Australian rules football legend turned presenter and commentator, Dermott Brereton. Other countries to have created their own version of the show include Russia and Norway.
In a new deal, taking the number of territories in which Commercial Breakdown has aired to seventeen, Slovenian public broadcaster, RTV Slovenia, has acquired the entire catalogue of eleven series of the show, totalling over 40 episodes, whilst Sky NZ in New Zealand has acquired the three most recent series.
Ed Louwerse, Managing Director of 2waytraffic International, commented:
“Commercial Breakdown is a deceptively simple format of truly mass appeal, with an extraordinary track record. There aren’t many comedy entertainment formats that are still going strong after 17 years.”
