2waytraffic unveils first Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? spin-off
50-50 to launch at Mipcom 2007, with four deals already confirmed
2waytraffic International today unveiled 50-50, its brand new game show format and the first spin-offfrom Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The format has already been sold in four territories.
Japan’s Fuji channel is scheduled to broadcast a pilot in November 2007, while Mega Channel in Greece has signed up for a daily version of the show to launch in autumn 2008. In Australia, Nine Network will produce a pilot which 2waytraffic will use to bolster 50-50’s international roll-out, while Endemol Italy has already picked up the rights to produce the format for the Italian market.
50-50 can run weekly or daily, and is versatile enough to play in any timeslot. The show extends the 50-50 Lifeline from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? into a new format in which contestants play in pairs and everything is about making a straight choice between two possibilities.
Answering questions individually but ultimately working as a team, contestants must select an answer from two possible options before the question is passed over to their partner who must decide whether they agree or disagree. If they agree, the original answer is locked in, but if they disagree, they overrule their partner’s answer and the other option is locked in instead. After two nail-biting rounds throughout which the stakes rise and the game-play gets trickier, the couple reach the climax of the game in which they must decide the amount of money they think they deserve to win. If they guess wrongly, they can lose everything.
Ed Louwerse, Managing Director of 2waytraffic International, commented:“50-50 is an incredibly exciting development for us, which has the potential to play as either a companion to Millionaire or as a stand-alone show. I’m delighted to be taking the format to Mipcom with partners already on board, and would like to thank Fuji, Mega, Nine and Endemol Italy for their early support.”
