Big Chain Reaction on its way to MIPCOM Following Ratings High in Germany and the Netherlands
New licensing agreements for the show in Sweden and Norway
2waytraffic, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, has announced that its latest entertainment format, Big Chain Reaction, hits the MIPCOM market in October following successful ratings this summer in Germany and the Netherlands. The format has also been picked up by broadcasters in Sweden and Norway.
In Germany, where the show is known as Kipp-Roll-Fall, it aired on ProSieben on 6 June. The four hour live spectacular event offered viewers a not-to-be-missed experience of 10 teams, each playing a vital role in organising a chain of events that included everything from a sea lion starting the chain to the setting off of an avalanche to moving two passenger planes at Cologne airport. Kipp-Roll-Fall was the top performing show of the day for ProSieben with a total of 2.3 million viewers, an 18% share and it exceeded the channel’s primetime average by +41%.
Kipp-Roll-Fall was recorded for both German and Dutch TV viewers with hosts from both countries fronting the show. The Dutch-presented version of the show, called Kettingreactie in the Netherlands, aired on SBS6 on 13 June and ranked number one in its timeslot for all viewers, beating its nearest timeslot competitor by +46%. The show tied in first place with Shownieuws as the number one programme of the day on SBS6 and it performed better than SBS6's weekend primetime average by +36%.
In addition to ratings successes in Germany and the Netherlands, Big Chain Reaction has also been licensed to Kanal5 in Sweden and to TV Norge in Norway where it will air later this year.
Commenting, Ed Louwerse, managing director, 2waytraffic International, Sony Pictures Television, said:
“Big Chain Reaction offers a new type of television entertainment that resonates with viewers everywhere. The presence of celebrity hosts, along with many different kinds of people overcoming the odds to achieve physical challenges, makes this show one of the most compelling on TV today and one that all the family can enjoy.”
Big Chain Reaction is all about linking a series of both minor and major events in one long chain without any breaks. As the chain kicks off, viewers are gripped by the sight of everyday objects toppling over, rolling, swimming, flying, melting, boiling, vaporising and exploding. Hosted by celebrities and with non-stop action from start to finish, Big Chain Reaction creates a truly spectacular event.
