2waytraffic introduces new money tree to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
2waytraffic UK and ITV have today unveiled a new configuration of the money tree for the UK version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.
The new money tree will see contestants face 12 rather than 15 questions and moves them into the big money prizes faster by starting at £500 rather than £100 and seeing the five questions after the first £1000 “safe haven” take the player up to £50,000, rather than £32,000, where the second “safe haven” is now positioned.
New money tree: Old money tree:
£500 £100
£1,000 £200
SAFE HAVEN £300
£2,000 £500
£5,000 £1,000

£20,000 £2,000
£50,000 £4,000
SAFE HAVEN £8,000
£75,000 £16,000

The introduction of the new money tree coincides with the launch of a new contestant casting initiative designed to encourage the broadest possible range of potential contestants into the hotseat. The auditions are in addition to phone and Internet application and it will still be possible to apply via those means for a number of episodes.
Kees Abrahams, CEO of 2waytraffic, said:
“With the show approaching its tenth anniversary, our priority is to ensure that we keep it fresh and allow it to evolve. The new configuration of the money tree is about getting to the big money – and therefore the real excitement – faster. We hope that this, in addition to the new breadth of contestants which the auditions will attract, will ensure that the action we see in the hotseat remains as exciting and entertaining as ever.”
The new money tree will feature in Who Wants To be A Millionaire? from series 22, which launches on ITV1 on 18th August.
