Top Grades for Der Lehrer (The Teacher) on RTL from Sony Pictures Television
Der Lehrer (The Teacher), the latest scripted series from Sony Pictures Television’s (SPT) German production team got top grades on RTL this summer ranking number one in its timeslot for Adults 14 to 49.
Commenting, Martin Borowski, acting managing director, Sony Pictures Film und Fernseh Produktions GmbH, said: “We are delighted with the performance of Der Lehrer on RTL. The quirky nature of the main character and some of the hilarious moments of the series have clearly resonated with viewers.”
Der Lehrer is a comedy series starring Hendrik Duryn as Stefan Vollmer, an unconventional teacher in every sense with some highly unorthodox teaching methods. Vollmer returns to his career as a geography teacher after a period of absence and ends up with one of the lowest performing and hardest to manage classes in the school. Whilst all the other teachers have given up hope of ever getting anyone in the class to improve their performance, Vollmer rises to the challenge. As he tries to control an eclectic bunch of unruly teenagers, Vollmer seems to be his own worse enemy and trouble lurks around every corner with some uproarious scenes along the way.
Over the eight episodes of the series which aired Mondays at 21:15pm, Der Lehrer maintained a consistent performance on RTL topping its timeslot for Adults 14 to 49 and maintaining the same audience as its lead-in, Doctor’s Diary of 1.7 million. The show, which skewed younger than RTL's primetime average, achieved a 21 share in young Adults 14 to 29. It also outshines RTL’s all day average share by +11%.for Adults 14 to 49.
Der Lehrer has also been nominated for the prestigious Deutscher Fernsehpreis awards in the ‘Best Series’ category.
